The
Summer Solstice Festival is our last event of this season, and
well anticipated by our members. We sampled over 40 wines from
Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa. Delicious
foods were served along with the wines.
Six BC wine agents brought in their best and most popular Southern
Hemisphere wines to sample. The agents that have graciously offered
to pour their wonderful wines include: The Bacchus Group, The
Delf Group, Liberty Merchant Company, Maxxium Canada, Mark Anthony,
and Winspeer.
Two
special awards were presented at our festival. The first was to
our founding member, and our cellar master, Mr. Lance Berelowitz.
For Lance's determination to form our Society, his many years
as President, and his ongoing energy as cellar master, we presented
him with a lifetime membership to the South World Wine Society.
The other award is the "Order of the Gilded Grape" and
is presented to a person in the wine industry that supports our
Society and goes above and beyond the call of duty. We presented
this award to Mr. Tom Cox from Maxxium Canada. Tom has
been a member of the executive, keeping us informed on the wine
industry. Through Maxxium Canada, he has provided our Society
with many wines for our tastings. He comes to our tastings to
pour wines without having the pleasure of staying and enjoying
the wines and food. Tom is shown below accepting his award. Unfortunately
Lance had other commitments and was not able to attend the Summer
Solstice.
